Mara Valley - Day 3 AM

Here Come the Girls!

Yes, it's early morning and we're back with the large pride and the ladies are on a mission; to where we're not sure yet but we're following as closely as we can.

It was compelling to watch, they seemed almost like robots they way they walked resolutely on, never pausing or deviating.

Then suddenly they seemed to run out of steam and all sat down, some staying on watch and other feigning sleep.

And the cute little ones, just looking cute.

We stayed for a good long while in the hope that something else might happen but they seemed settled for the day so we went in search of other stuff and persuaded Esther to stop for birds.

European Honey Buzzard

Purple Grenadier m.

And at last, an LBR who looked like he was auditioning for an Angry Birds cartoon.

Just in case you thought my new camera had improved my bird in flight skills.

Although the tracking is so good once it's locked on to the subject it does hold focus.

Superb Starling

Striped Kingfisher

Yellow-throated Longclaw

Not the best of shots but you can at least see the beautiful colours on these Rüppell's starlings.

Common Bulbul

A few more zebra happily grazing.

And some young Wildebeest

This one seems to think he's well hidden.

Southern Rock Agama m.

We then came to a large man-made water source.

I thought I'd try a couple of arty shots; reflections

And ALT (animal like thinks) - looks like a swan to me.

Heading back to camp for lunch, we passed this huge herd of cattle, there must have been over 1,000 animals.
